Middle Distance: Rest and Recovery Time Frame with Scott Christensen – Complete Track and Field

View more from the video provider • February 24, 2021 • By Championship Productions

Watch as Coach explains that when setting up workouts you need to consider rest and recovery time frames. The recovery period, not the actual work period, is when an athlete gets better. Recovery time frames are based on the type of workout or race and involve a 24-, 48-, or 72-hour rest and recovery period. He will cover each of the time frames with an explanation of the type of workouts and races that determine the amount of time needed.

Coach Scott Christensen has retired from the head coach position at Stillwater Area High School (MN). His teams have been ranked in the national top 10 eight times since 1995. His squads have accomplished multiple Minnesota State Championships. Four Stillwater alumni have broken 4:00 in the mile since leaving the program. Scott has coached 13 Minnesota State Championship-winning teams and 27 individual Minnesota State Champions with 7 of those in the 1600 meters. He was the 2003 USA Junior Team Leader and 2008 USA National Team Leader for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and is a 17-year USATF Level II Endurance Lead Instructor and a 7-year USTFCCCA Endurance Instructor.
