Basic Plyometric Guidelines for Distance Runners with Scott Christensen – Complete Track and Field

June 1, 2021 • By Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches

Watch as Coach explains that any plyometric training should be specific to distance running improvement. All plyometric work should be done at full effort and the activities should resemble distance running. All drills must be done correctly and repeated the same way every time. Always start simple and work drills toward complexity and when form fails, it is time to quit.

Coach Scott Christensen has retired from the head coach position at Stillwater Area High School (MN). His teams have been ranked in the national top 10 eight times since 1995. His squads have accomplished multiple Minnesota State Championships. Four Stillwater alumni have broken 4:00 in the mile since leaving the program. Scott has coached 13 Minnesota State Championship-winning teams and 27 individual Minnesota State Champions with 7 of those in the 1600 meters. He was the 2003 USA Junior Team Leader and 2008 USA National Team Leader for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and is a 17-year USATF Level II Endurance Lead Instructor and a 7-year USTFCCCA Endurance Instructor.
