Watch as Coach Lee Murphy explains, and a catcher demonstrates this pocket drill that focuses on preventing a catcher from having a sore thumb. The drill works on catching the ball in the pocket, starting out using a pitching machine and then switching to a pitcher. The 1st position is a catcher lying on her belly tracking the ball into the pocket of her glove. The next progression is to the knees again, focusing on the eyes and glove. The final progression is from the normal catcher's stance.
