Watch as Coach Larry Wooten discusses how to help athletes to prepare mentally for an At-Bat. He explains in detail his checklist that prepares his players to hit.
First, the player must be prepared in the on-deck circle. Second, they should take two or three practice swings to get loose and ready to bat. Third, they need to focus on the game and pay close attention to the third base coach. Fourth, the player should observe the pitcher and try to figure out her pitching style and tendencies. Fifth, when the pitcher brings her hands together, the batter should call for time, then step confidently into the batter’s box. Sixth, the player must take control. The batter who believes they are in charge will always have an edge over the one who doesn’t.
