Dr. LaTonya Goffney discusses what she feels are the key characteristics of an effective athletic administrator. Having a vision for your program is essential and it is important to meet with individual head coaches so they understand your vision and their responsibilities. Not every sport will win a state championship, but she expects progress in each sport regarding participation, preparation, and discipline. She also believes that an administrator must be able to make the hard decisions with coaches who are not performing.
