Jennifer Frazier discusses the recruitment and retention of coaches. She feels that morale is an issue for many programs, and she discusses some steps they have taken to deal with this issue. Giving your team a 'quick win' has been very successful by instigating a 'Coach of the Month' award to go along with the 'Coach of the Year' award. This is sponsored by a local business, and she explains how the process works and how it benefits both parties. They have also established an end-of-season celebration for all the coaches featuring professional development and an ice cream social. The 'Head Coach Academy' was set up to recruit assistants in your system who eventually want to become head coaches. They need to apply, be recommended by a principal, and are required to attend a three-week course with the goal of preparing them to become head coaches.
