The Role of Coaches in Addressing Diversity/Equity/Inclusion/Social Issues with Dr. Karissa Niehoff – NFHS

July 13, 2021 • By National High School Basketball Coaches Association

Watch as NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) Executive Director Dr. Karissa Niehoff discusses the role of high school coaches in addressing social issues such as diversity, equality, and inclusion. She cites an example of teams playing in hostile environments and how coaches prepare their teams for this experience. Coaches have tremendous social capital and are a catalyst that can lead in what is acceptable for the kids to experience. They can work with their schools to educate kids, parents, and the community for raising the bar for behavioral expectations.

This clip comes from a full-length session that was featured in the National HS Basketball Coaches Virtual Leadership Summit that was held from April 29 - May 1, 2021.
