Watch as Coach Michael Bynon explains, and players demonstrate these arm swing and digging progression drills. The focus of the progression is good arm swing mechanics and good defensive positioning. The defender will use a visual cue on the hitter’s toss for their set, to release, and create some space. The progression starts with a dig and catch, then a dig to yourself and set a high out-of-system ball, and the final progression is a dig, set, with the attacker stepping and closing while tipping the ball short. The defender must dig, set, and cover the short tip.
