Pregame training session - Everton FC

Activity #1: Warm Up

Organization:

• All players in half the field
• Moving freely and performing dynamic movement

Coaching points:

• Increase heart rate
• Focus mentally
• Increase range of motion

Activity #2: 5 v 2

Organization:

• The five attackers keep ball from two defenders
• Variations
- Players take a short run across the field and come back for 5 v 2. This is repeated 3 times with the runs getting longer
- Play two touch; play one touch
• Total time 15 minutes

Coaching points:

• Quick ball movement
• Correct running technique
• Increase intensity

Activity #3:

Organization:

• Players are split into two groups as shown
• Hurdles, poles and cones are placed as shown
• Players perform a variety of SAQ activities
• Exercise one incorporates quick change of direction

Coaching Points

• Quick coordinated movements
• Acceleration
• Correct mechanics

Progression of above:

• Players remain in two lines
• Hurdles and cones are placed as shown
• Players perform a variety of SAQ activities
• They move laterally over hurdles
• Time 7 minutes

Coaching points:

• Quick movement
• Acceleration
• Correct mechanics

Activity #4: 9 v 9

Organization:

• Field is full width of field and 18 yard box to 18 yard box
• Teams try to score on opponents goal
• This should be high tempo with few touches on the ball
• Reinforce tactics to be used in the game

Activity #5: Individual training

Organization:

• Activity A: Cones five yards apart; player 2 moves laterally from cone to cone while player 1 serves the ball 60 seconds
• Activity B: Poles five yards apart and player dribbles as shown – 60 seconds
• Activity C: Player 1 plays one touch and two touch back to servers; 5 – 7 yards apart for 30 seconds
