False “9” (playing between lines)

 False "9" (playing between lines)

By: Vitor Gouveia

Provided by: NSCAA

Introduction:

• Useful when confronting a team who has 2 big central defenders (CDs), strong in marking, but with low mobility, slow, with difficulties to disarm the opponent when he appears running at high-speed;
• The strategy will focus on those issues, by placing our Striker (ST) in the midfield sector marking reference to the CDs and at the same time explore the space created.

To explore the space left by the ST:
1

ST in the zone of the W (when he plays inside):
2

ST in the middle (act as CM)
1

Typified movements according to the position of the ball

Go home message:

• The action of the ST (LEAVING THE SPACE) will provoke the following behaviors on the opponenet:
- The CDs and all the defensive line will go up in the pitch --> MORE SPACE IN THE BACK TO EXPLORE
- The CDs will stay in the same zone --> SPACE BETWEEN LINES TO EXPLORE AND TO START CREATING GOAL OPPORTUNITIES;
- The defensive midfielder (DM) approximates the DCs to reduce the space between lines --> MORE SUPPERIORITY IN THE MIDDLE TO CREATE FINALIZATION OPPORTUNITIES;
• It will be decisive to circulate the ball in the middle sector and in the right time launch rapture and diagonal passes
