Watch full video with Baseball +Plus here. • September 23, 2025 • By Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association

Watch as Coach Tony Vitello discusses baseball speed vs. showcase speed. He believes there is too much emphasis on showcase than in playing the game. Coach Vitello lists 4 factors that are essential for developing baseball speed.

  1. Create an environment in the weight room and the basepaths that contribute to success on the field.
  2. How quickly can you get down the line and make turns around the bases.
  3. Impact on your team and the opponent - "Nebraska Drill".
  4. Proper way to run to run on the baseball field offensively and defensively.

Tony Vitello was previously coached at Missouri, TCU, Arkansas, and took over a struggling Tennessee program in 2018, turning them into a national powerhouse.
