Watch as Coach Dan Spencer cites statistics for Division I concerning the leadoff hitter. If the leadoff hitter got on base, the average runs per inning was 1.2 and the chance of scoring a run that inning was 56%. If the leadoff runner was called out, the average runs per inning was 0.34 and the chance of scoring was 19%. The importance of getting the leadoff hitter out is the same for a starter or a pitcher out of the bullpen.
