The MVP Process for Leading Adults with John Woods, CMAA – Libertyville High School (IL)

August 6, 2025 • By National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association

John Woods explains that in his coaching career he was very comfortable leading his players. As a new Athletic Director, he realized he had no idea how to lead adults. As he grew and matured as an AD, he discovered the MVP process which stands for the mission, vision, and core principles that identify who we are, where we are going, and how we are going to get there. It is important to involve the stakeholders within your department to determine the MVP process that will become the blueprint for your athletic department's legacy.

The NIAAA champions the profession of athletic administration through educational opportunities, advocating ethics, developing leaders, and fostering community. Find more information on their website here: niaaa.org.
