Dr. Kaleb Stoppel explains how being wounded by a student in an active shooter situation has brought trauma into his and his family's life. Moving to a new job and town has helped support his healing and recovery and given him a fresh perspective. He feels that he better understands the impact of any type of trauma can have on students and adults. It is important that coaches and administrators create an environment where everyone feels safe and comfortable to talk about mental health issues. Experiencing trauma is a process that does not have to define you, but can make you better. He feels that this trauma has made him a better man, husband, and father as well as a better leader.
