4-Cone Defensive Drill with Tony Bowles – Rockwall High School (TX)

May 5, 2025 • By Soccer Coaches Insider

Watch as Coach Tony Bowles explains, and players demonstrate this 4-cone defensive drill. The players are in groups of 4 like a traditional back 4 and the cones are numbered 1 through 4. When Coach calls a number, the defender in front of that cone will step to that cone and the other 3 defenders will slide over to support him. The drill progresses as Coach calls out different numbers. There are 2 variations of the drill: numbers to numbers or staying inside the hash.
