Midfielder’s Statue Shooting Drill with Dan Chemotti – Univ. of Richmond

December 15, 2021 • By Intercollegiate Mens Lacrosse Coaches Association

Watch as Coach explains, and a player demonstrates this statue shooting drill for midfielders. Since shooting on the run is difficult, this drill teaches the last piece necessary by isolating the movement and focusing on the mechanics. It is best to do against a backstop or wall and not a goal so the shooter will not focus on trying to score. Coach shows the position you are in while running and preparing for a shot. The left foot is forward in an exaggerated position with the stick held at an incline. When the brain says shoot, the hip moves first, which will create more torque and power on the shot. Make sure to bend the knees and the toes should be pointed in the same direction.
