Watch as Coach Billy Boyer explains, and infielders demonstrate using the action and pivot circles when the short stop is executing a double play. The infielder approaches the bag at full speed and starts to break down and prepares for the feed when they reach the action circle. The pivot circle is the smaller inside circle where the shortstop receives the feed and makes the throw to 1st. The standard footwork for the short stop is right foot anchor, left foot catch, right replace, and throw. Coach provides another option that he feels in certain circumstances will be more efficient: Left foot anchor, catch and go one, two.
