Watch as Coach Jason Crain explains, and an infielder demonstrates fielding backhand and forehand grounders. The average time from home to first base is 4 to 4.5 seconds so it is key that the infielder does not take extra steps. The drill alternates using the backhand to the forehand working on steps, hands, and throwing position. Coach recommends putting a clock on the drill to re-enforce the need to limit any extra steps when fielding the ball.
