Lakeland High School’s Student-Led Media Team with Savanna Collins – Athletes Unlimited

September 11, 2023 • By ADInsider

Savanna Collins explains that when she was a student at Lakeland High School, she was a sideline reporter of the school's sporting events. Savanna and her father, Athletic Director Deron Collins, discussed implementing what she does professionally into a student-led media team for the athletic department. She recommends that the first steps in creating a student-led media team is to do some student outreach by going to classes that have something related to media. These classes will have candidates that are interested (but also reach out to outgoing students). Decide where your audience lives and what platforms are best to reach them. It is important to identify your goals and then you can start building content. Have the media team discuss upcoming weekly events and then build out the coverage. Savanna gives examples of the type of coverages that they provide.
