Tony Dillingham explains the importance of due diligence in the hiring process. Reach out to other ADs and Coaches who know the candidate in a professional and social manner. The interview process for hiring head coaches starts with a selected committee and progresses to the 2nd interview with the AD, Principal, and Superintendent. After the interviews Tony asks himself if he would want his son or daughter to play for the coaching candidate. He stresses that X’s and O’s and schemes are always important, but the goal is to hire the very best Coach who will work the kids hard, teach them life lessons and serve as a role model.
