The batter will have a ball in her hand and be in a throwing position making sure to raise the backside heel. She throws the ball at the ball on the tee making sure to hit the ball or come inside of it. The focus is to drive the elbow in to the mid-section and to drive the shoulder all the way through like they were throwing a punch, making sure to keep the inside the ball.

This drill works on visual skills of recognizing if the pitch is a strike or not, and recognizing pitch zones. The players must use the last 3 inches of the barrel which gives them barrel awareness and confidence in their bunting. This bunting drill pairs hand-eye coordination with zone recognition and being able to execute the technical aspects of the bunt.

Watch as Coach Shana Easley discusses tee work and the use of resistance bands to work on the batter’s hands and stride. A partner will hold the bungee band back, so the hitter feels what their hands are doing as they go into their stride. The second part of this drill focuses on having the hitter make repeatable swings that look the same whether it is an inside or outside swing. The hitters then continue the tee work without the bungees repeating the same process.
