One player will be the actor and the other a reactor. The actor will initiate the moves, and the reactor must mirror the moves. Communication is important and the defender must say ball every time they approach a cone.

Watch as Coach Joel Tinney explains and demonstrates this angle dodge drill. The focus is for the dodger to gain an advantage and make the defender determine how to exploit it. The coach sets up the drill using three cones to create a triangle. The offensive player will sprint to the coach, catch the ball, and curl into their dodge (right or left), squaring up. The defender will shadow and will either stay high, allowing the dodger to come underneath, or stay square, allowing the dodger to get top side.

Watch as Coach Bobby Benson (previously at Johns Hopkins Univ.) explains the first read on pick is to accept or reject it. The second read is to stick or slip the pick. The player must listen, look, and feel the defender to get an idea on how they are playing it. If it is a switch, then you should slip and if the defender stays you should stick the pick. A good way to remember is this saying: "They switch we slip; they stay we stick".

The drill is set up with a line of cones arched and slightly bent towards the middle of the field. The player will start with the ball in his stick with the stick out in front of him. He will step with the left foot, come off the right foot on the inside, then take a jump shot shooting for the far post. Coach stresses the importance of shooting over the top and not from the side.
